Disney art that is superb, skilful and scrumptious
Sam Lucero is a cake artist, often creating detailed pieces featuring recognisable icons and figures from pop culture. Lucero, from Anarchy Cake Studio, created an edible Baymax from Big Hero 6 for Cake Con International.
A benefit of living in a highly connected world is the fact that people with the same interests, hobbies, professions and part of the same subcultures are able to organise events, meet, collaborate and display their work.
It should come as little surprise, then, that Cake Con International is a thing. Inspired by San Diego Comic Con, Mayra Prado Estrada and Cassandra Rice conceived the idea of Cake Con International in 2015.
It’s now a fantastic collaboration between a number of cake/sugar artists that merges their love of geek and pop culture with their passion and flair for cake artistry.
In 2017 they had a booth at Cake and Bake Germany and then earlier this year became the first collaboration ever to display edible art inspired by comics at Wonder Con.
Details for what’s to come in 2019 is top secret at the moment, but it’s expected to be their biggest year yet.
