The most fitting song for ‘R U OK?’ day
R U OK? Day is an initiative started by an Australian organisation of the same name and falls on the second Thursday of each month.
The day of action is dedicated to reminding people to ask the people around them “are you okay?” – a simple gesture that can mean the world and speak volumes.
‘I’m Listening’ is a particularly special song by soul/hip-hop artist JayO. He’s also the founder of 1Mission, a group that aims to reach, uplift, encourage and inspire through religion.
I’m Listening was made for 1Mission and has a clear message: “sometimes all it takes is someone who’ll listen”. It’s a particularly fitting song on R U OK? Day considering the themes and implications behind it.
R U OK? is a not-for-profit suicide prevention organisation founded by Gavin Larkin in 2009 and works with experts, the government and community leaders.
It works collaboratively with experts in suicide prevention and mental illness, as well as government departments, corporate leaders, teachers, universities, students and community groups.
