Frenetic African beats tell a contrasting story of isolation and loneliness
‘Muanapoto’ is the frenetic, beat-heavy track from the unique, Paris-based band, ‘Tshegue’.
The single, featured on the group’s debut EP, is slightly different to Tshegue’s usual music. Where the rest of the EP is African-inspired alternative rock, Muanapoto is more rooted dance music, heavily leaning on tribal drums.
The accompanying music video is set in the Ivory Coast, and together with the lyrics, articulates a story about silence and isolation – a stark contrast to the upbeat, high-tempo music. It follows a woman who is deaf and dumb, but frees herself through dance.
