Robert De Niro’s brutal, expletive-laden speech gets a standing ovation
The Tony Awards celebrates the best achievements in Broadway productions and shows; and following the trend of the Oscars, it is also a platform for celebrities to voice their concerns and political messages.
Before introducing for Bruce Springsteen and his performance on Sunday night, Robert De Niro went up to the microphone and uttered words that would be censored for all watching on televisions across the world- ‘F*ck Trump!’
As one of the only actors that night to call out Trump blatantly and directly, he received a standing ovation from those in attendance of the prestigious awards night.
Andrew Garfield also made a comment about how Trump was the ‘antithesis’ of the value system of the play he performed backstage, in a addition to the survivors of the Parkland shooting performing a song.
